TCS 4-CV Guided Programmer Instructions

Understanding the TCS 4-CV Guided Programming Tools

This guide will offer instructions on how to use our Guided Programming Tools for WOWSound Decoders which use "indexed" 4-CV programming to modify sound-related settings. In this example, we will walk you through the process of adjusting the Volume of the "Horn" sound type.

It is critical to understand that the 4-CV Guided Programming Tools for WOWSound decoders are Version-reliant. If you do not use the correct guided programmer for your decoder type and version, the generated values will NOT be compatible with your decoder and could result in erratic, random behavioral changes and incorrect sound operation. To see all of the available Guided Programmer options available, click HERE. The decoder Version can be read from CV7.

NOTE: TCS no longer supports Version 3 decoders, and no longer offers guided programming tools for Version 3 and older decoders.

Once you have selected the correct programmer for your decoder, begin by verifying that the Version and Sound Type of your decoder matches the tool as shown. If your version or sound type does not match the tool, go back and select the correct tool. In this example, let's say the decoder is WOWSteam Version 4.

Guided Programming Instructions Step 1
Next, after verifying that you have selected the correct tool, click on the left-most drop-down box. This will bring up several generalized categories of settings. To make a volume adjustment, select "Volume Control"

Guided Programming Instructions Step 2
Once you have selected a generalized category, you can select a more specified type of setting. To change Volumes of a specific Sound Type, select "Sound Type Volume Adjustment" from the new drop-down box that appears.

Guided Programming Instructions Step 3
In some cases, and additional drop-down box will appear to the right for an even more specific category. In this example, we can now move down into the lower box to configure our setting instead.

Guided Programming Instructions Step 4
There are several sound types in the decoder. We want to adjust the sound type "Horn" to affect any sound type that is considered a Horn. This is selected from the drop-down in the center.

Once the correct sound type has been selected, the slider can be moved, or a value entered into the text box to set the volume level for the sound type Horn.

Guided Programming Instructions Step 5
Now that all of the options for this one setting have been selected, the values for the four indexed CV's are generated and displayed on the right.

To set up this new configuration in the decoder, CV 201, 202, 203, and 204 must be programmed IN ORDER using these values as shown.

Mute on Startup

Mute on Startup (MoS) is a configuration option in WOWSound decoders which will prevent the prime mover or other idle sounds (steam and diesel) from coming on as soon as power is applied to the locomotive. This is especially useful at clubs or large layouts with dozens of trains or more. To enable this setting, follow all of the steps above, but instead making the selections as shown below for the categories.

Note that it is important to verify all of your settings, such as if you are a Digitrax user, selecting all of the settings that apply. Some Indexed CV's control MANY separate settings simultaneously. Failing to verify all of the settings are correct WILL result in unexpected changes in operation.
