This installation of TCS DP5 Digital Decoder is for HO Scale Atlas Silver GE B23-7 and was performed by A.G.
The three pictures above show the beautiful Atlas Silver GE B23-7 with its shell on.
Unscrew the front screw (circled in red) as well as the back one that holds the coupler pockets to the chassis and remove both coupler pockets.
Grasping the shell by the solid area between the grills, lift the shell straight up and off of the chassis.
Picture of the same board with the DCC plug removed. In the upper left corner of the DCC socket you can see a small triangle mark — that is the "pin # 1" indication (orange wire).
Using the image above for reference install the DP5 decoder into the 8 Pin NMRA socket. Be sure to orient the pins so that pin 1 on the decoder enters the NMRA socket 1.
Below is an alternate method of installation using an MC2P-SH.
Plug the MC2P-SH into the DCC socket so that the orange wire is lined up with the "first pin indicator."
Place some electrical tape over the decoder and stick it to the chassis so that it will not touch the moving part of the motor.
Hold the shell in one hand and the chassis in your other hand. Lining up the front of both pieces, lower the shell onto the chassis, keeping the lower edge of the shell parallel with the chassis. Do not forget to attach both couplers.
Important Soldering Tip
Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. It will damage it. Use only Rosin core solder approved for electronics use.
We recommend to use only Kester "44" rosin core, SN63PB37, .015" diameter, part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips
When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more then a 1/64 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire then half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
